a throne in the sky

For my final project, I wanted to extend my last project involving chairs floating in the sea. This project has a similar mood to the last one: this overwhelming sense of calmness and serenity. Only this time, instead of focusing on the eerie effects of mental instability, I wanted to create something that would ease the mind and cause the viewer to relax as they’re transported through a modern, abstract, and ethereal new world I have created; sort of like a dream. I think that this is what I needed to create after a long semester filled with struggles and anxiety. I wanted to make a world that I would prefer to live in when everything around me becomes overwhelming and unbearable, using minimal, pastel colors, mirrors, and a simple wooden chair. In my last piece, the wooden chair was used to represent mental stability floating in a sea that was out of our control. Now I want to give it a new symbolism, where it represents a state of mind at rest and a sense of balance and peace.
